Called to wait

Waiting may not seem productive, but God has perfect timing and uses every season for good.

In a recent sermon, our pastor was talking about God’s call on our lives and said “don’t waste the wait”.

Often God’s calling involves a period of waiting. He will give us a vision for the future, or even just a restlessness, but regarding timing, His answer will be not yet.

We see this in the Bible with Abraham, Moses, David, and Paul, among others, but I have seen it personally in my life and with friends too.

I always had an entrepreneurial bug, but never a clear call to pursue it. I recall praying about it for years with guys from my community group before finally having peace about moving forward, ironically at the worst possible time in a worldly sense – just after the birth of our first son.

In my experience, I saw that God was preparing me, both practically and spiritually, for what lay ahead; enabling me to be faithful in what was – and still is – a challenging time in life.

For those in a season of waiting, don’t waste the wait. God doesn’t call us to quit when things get hard, but calls us to remain faithful and trust the timing of His good plan. While waiting, I encourage you to pursue these three things:

  1. Pursue God. Spending the time to build our faith is never a waste.
  2. Pursue Knowledge. Learn new skills and improve existing ones; it is so cool to see them being utilized in the future.
  3. Pursue relationships. We all have unique opportunities to be light in the place we are right now.

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
