Dream bigger

Don’t limit your ambitions and dreams, including your vocation, to your own abilities, but the power of God.

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.
Ephesians‬ ‭3:20‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Last night while reading through my Bible, I was struck by the NLT translation of this verse. This is a call to a radically big vision of what we can do, or at least what I should aim for.

So often I find myself limiting my goals and dreams to the the feasible, to the realistic, to the attainable, thinking only of my abilities and skills, and often of my comfort more than I’d like to admit.

This isn’t a call to be delusional, but rather to have a bold confidence in the bigness of our God, and his ability and desire to work through us to accomplish his will. We can only do this when we continually meditate on who God is and how he is working all things for his glory.

By dreaming bigger, men and women have abolished slavery, rescued women from the sex trade, created vastly better working conditions, brought clean water to those without, and eradicated diseases, to name just a few. We still have massive challenges in our world today, but it is too easy to forget them when they don’t affect us daily.

Our vocation, whether for profit or non-profit, will have an impact, and that impact can be huge. How can you dream bigger?
