Busy

In busy seasons more than ever, we must ensure that we are grounded in biblical truth and honest community.

Ask any working person today how things are going and the first answer is usually busy, and it’s true, there seems to be a constant pressure to do more both professionally and personally.

As an entrepreneur the pressure is even greater, you could literally work all day and still have too many things to do, so prioritizing ruthlessly is vital.

However there will be seasons of life that are simply busy, whether it’s a push to release a new product or surviving the first few months with a newborn.

I am currently in one of the busiest seasons of my life, and it is making me really evaluate how to do work and life well in the midst of it. I don’t have the answers, but have found a few things to be aware of:

  1. Have an end. When there is a finite period of time, an unsustainable effort can be maintained, but it cannot be permanent.
  2. Stay in the word. When we get busy, it is easy to neglect daily reading, but when our minds are overflowing with challenges and concerns, it is more important than ever to carve the time out of the day to read and refocus on what really matters.
  3. Don’t lose community. The biggest challenge I find is maintaining community when I’m busy. It is so easy to work at night instead of connecting with others, and when there are real deadlines, it’s natural to use all available time. Our community may look different in these seasons, but it can’t be ignored.

If you find yourself in a busy season, I encourage you to do everything you can to make time for the practices and people that keep you grounded in your faith, as it is more valuable that anything else.
